Accra, 27th March 2024 - A 12-Member Ghana Mutual Prosperity Steering and Technical committee co-chaired by the Ministries of Finance and Trade and Industry has been inaugurated to ensure a conducive environment for businesses to thrive and remain competitive on the global market.
The Ghana Mutual Prosperity Dialogue Framework is a Public-Private partnership aimed at attracting foreign and local investment by promoting shared growth. They are also to identify challenges in the investment climate and provide solutions to ensure a conducive environment is created for all stakeholders.
In his opening remarks, Co-Chair of the Committee, Dr Amin Adam charged them to bridge the gap between the private and public sectors and citizens of Ghana with mutual collaborations that complement each other.
“This committee is being put together to deliver results and not just have conversations, it is important for me to state that, this partnership should be a vehicle to facilitate the implementation of the government’s growth agenda,” he said.
According to the Minister, despite the challenges that the business community faces, the government was working around the clock to ensure a smooth business operating field for all stakeholders to thrive.
He hinted of government’s plan to establish a Ghana Development Forum this year to ensure a deepened conversation at the local level to make “the environment better” for those in business.
The Forum, he underscored, would bring together all stakeholders in the Ghanaian economy to engage in extensive deliberation on the current state of the business climate and how to put together measures for the future.
The Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry, Hon. Michael Okyere Baafi was optimistic the committee would be able to live up to its task.
“The Ministry of Trade and Industry is expecting a very fruitful discussions that would champion the course of meeting the goals of this important committee”, he asserted.
He assured the house of his Ministry’s readiness to contribute to the achievement of the goals of the committee.
The committee membership includes Hon. K.T. Hammond, Ministry of Trade, and Industry (Co-Chair), Dr Bryan Acheampong, Ministry of Food and Agriculture, Dr Abudu Abdul-Ganiyu, Advisor to the Minister for Finance, Mr. K Duker, Development Bank Ghana, Mr. Sam Mensah Baah, Tony Blair Institute for Global Change.
Others are Mr. Kyle Kelhofer, International Finance Corporation, Mr. Yofi Grant, Ghana Investment Promotion Centre, Dr Humphrey Kwesi Ayim-Darke, Association of Ghana Industries, Mr. Mark Badu-Aboagye, Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Nana Osei-Bonsu, Private Entreprise Federation and Prof. Peter Quartey from Institute for Statistical, Social, and Economic Research (ISSER).
