The attention of this Ministry has been drawn to an article circulating on social media headlined, ‘Firms of Ofori Atta, Adu Boahen appointed advisors to Finance Ministry’.

The Ministry of Finance on Thursday, 27th May, 2021 launched the third in a series of annual SDGs Budget Reports. The 2020 SDGs Budget Report is a continuation of Government efforts to evaluate and define the funding gap for the SDGs.

Ghana has managed very effectively the COVID-19 outbreak in the country, and thus succeeded in protecting lives. Almost 93,000 cases have been confirmed, and unfortunately 780 people have died as of today. The launch of mass vaccine rollout has been a breakthrough.

The attention of the Ministry of Finance has been drawn to a letter circulating in the media space and purportedly signed by the Minister for Finance, which seeks to indicate that the President of the Republic has through the Ministry of Finance placed a hold on recruitment in the State Security Institutions.

We wish to state that Ghana continues to be categorised as a “Lower-Middle Income Economy” based on the widely-recognised classification of the World Bank and the UN.

Ghana returned to the International Debt Capital Markets as the first Sub-Saharan African Sovereign to issue in USD since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, achieving a record size in excess of US$3 billion and enhancing its market access through the use of a 4-year Zero-Coupon.

The Ministry’s attention has been drawn to media publications, claiming that Government spent GH¢1.7 billion on the Covid-19 pandemic, even though Government says its spent GH¢19 billion.

In accordance with Article 179 of the 1992 Constitution and Section 21 (3) of the Public Financial Management Act, 2016, (Act 921), Minister for Parliamentary Affairs will, on behalf of the President lay before Parliament, the 2021 Budget Statement and Economic Policy of Government on Friday, 12th March, 2021.

The Programme is for up to US$5.0 billion and will be used to support growth-oriented expenditures in the 2021 Budget and to conduct liability management of both Eurobonds and Domestic Bonds.

The Ministry of Finance wishes to inform the general public and stakeholders that Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta, the Representative of H.E the President at the Ministry of Finance and Minister-designate for Finance, will travel to the United States of America today for a special medical review.
